12 Days Of Christmas
This holiday season, Best Mommy Life wants to gift you with 12 days of restoration. Each day we will post one thing that we want to challenge you to do, and this one thing will challenge you to grow, will encourage you to change, and will gift you with something tangible to make your journey in this life a little bit easier. There is no gift better than what heals the soul, down deep where the core resides, to ease your life’s struggles and better face each day. We certainly hope you enjoy them and USE them to their fullest potential now and each day forward.
"Exercise your body. With all of the to-do’s that we have on our plate every day, it seems nearly impossible to squeeze in a little time for exercise."
But the truth is, when we do make time for exercise it comes back to us tenfold! We start to look better, feel better, and our bodies are given a little extra stamina to fight the daily and extend our lives longer. It’s proven to ward off chronic disease, increase our bone density, improve skin health, and thousands of other benefits.
Having to work, especially, can get in the way of working out — it’s one big oxymoron, and the more difficult (and exhilarating!) our jobs become, the more we struggle to find time to work out; on the other hand, we can’t afford not to exercise because it’s crucial to continued health. Here are a few ideas to help you overcome the “I can’t workout because I work out” blues:
"High intensity workouts are the best and there are so many training videos out there that can help."
Pick a few routines that you can do anywhere. This might limit some of the activities you can do (sorry swimmers!) but you will still get the same benefits that you are seeking from a workout. High intensity workouts are the best and there are so many training videos out there that can help. Some of the best workouts are around 20 minutes and can be done practically anywhere.
Running is another great option, but if you aren’t ready for a 20 minute run, start off by walking. Walking is a great start to building stamina and can help you get adjusted to exercise. Half the battle is starting, and once you’ve set aside the time and effort into getting healthier, it is so much easier to ramp up your routine into something more difficult later on.
Tip: We love Sharny and Julius’ FitMum and FitDad programs and have subscribed to them in the past!
They are an invaluable resource for incorporating exercise into your daily routines.
Wake up (or go to bed, for us night owls) thirty minutes earlier (or later)! Yes, giving up a little sleep is hard… especially for us moms who are ALWAYS on the go. But here’s the thing: you will get BETTER, more QUALITY, sleep when you do. Sometimes I will wake up three or four times in the night, having to adjust for aches and pains. When I exercise this nearly ceases because my body is healthier and able to get restful, peaceful sleep.
"We ALL find excuses to not exercise, so don’t feel guilty… just plan ahead by finding someone to help you through them."
Get an accountability partner. Going it alone is definitely possible, but having a friend or family member alongside you for moral support, competition, and encouragement is nearly crucial. At first it’s easy, but after several weeks when your motivation thins it’s best to have that extra accountability in your corner to help you weather the storm. We ALL find excuses to not exercise, so don’t feel guilty… just plan ahead by finding someone to help you through them.
Track your activity. Take before and after pictures. Journal your progress. This really helps if you are the type of person that needs a visual to validate your success.
Know the END GOAL. Decide what your “why” is. Write it down and place it in front of you daily. Some people even write it on their bathroom mirror! Is it to loose weight? Write it down, but be specific. Why do you want to loose weight? Make it something for YOU. If you make your why about someone else, it tends to loose it’s pizzazz over time. Goals are best when they are specific and personal. Say, “I want to loose weight because I want to feel ______ and I want to ______.” Its perfectly fine to want to look thinner, but try to be more creative. We should love ourselves and our bodies every day, no matter what! Dig deep to find the REAL reason you want to reach your goals.
"At the end of the day,
we cannot afford to not exercise… even if it’s
for only a few
minutes per day."
Mental health is something that gets overlooked often when it comes to exercise. Exercise does SO much for our brain chemistry. It truly changes the chemicals that we produce and keeps our serotonin levels up. Not only do our muscles and bones say “THANK YOU!!” but our brains do too. Our energy levels increase and our overall well being takes a dramatic turn for the better!
At the end of the day, we cannot afford to not exercise… even if it’s for only a few minutes per day. Make a change for the better today to incorporate exercise into your daily life!!
